Privacy Policy

Last updated on January 3, 2026.

Charlie McMahon (ABN 57 483 646 707) ("we," "us," or "our") operates the mobile application, RideMate ("the App"). RideMate is designed for motorbike and car ride tracking. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use the App.

Your Privacy is Paramount

We're deeply committed to protecting your privacy. We've built RideMate with your data security and privacy as our top priority. We do not collect, store, or have access to any personal information or ride data from your use of the App.

What Information RideMate Collects and Stores

RideMate is built on the principle of minimal data collection. We do not collect, store, or have access to any personal information or ride data from your use of the App.

Your Data Storage Choices

RideMate offers you a simple choice regarding your ride data storage:

  • On-Device Storage (Default): If you choose not to enable iCloud backup, all your ride data—including routes, speeds, and other recorded metrics—remains exclusively on your device. No data leaves your device whatsoever. We can't access, view, or retrieve this data.
  • iCloud Backup (Optional): If you opt to enable iCloud backup for RideMate, your ride data will be securely stored in your personal iCloud account, managed by Apple. This data is subject to Apple's privacy policy and security measures. We do not have access to your iCloud account or the data stored within it.

No Data Collection, Selling, or Sharing

  • No Data Collected: We don't collect, process, or store any of your ride data on our servers. When you use optional features like Friends or Web Access, your data is managed entirely through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure, not by us.
  • No Data Sold: We never sell any user data. Since we don't collect it, there's nothing to sell.
  • No Data Shared: We don't share any user data with third parties. When you share rides with friends through the Friends feature, that sharing is done directly through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure and is entirely under your control.

Friends Feature (Optional)

RideMate offers an optional Friends feature that allows you to share rides with friends. This feature is completely opt-in and requires your explicit consent:

  • Sign in with Apple: To use the Friends feature, you must sign in with your Apple ID. This authentication is handled securely by Apple.
  • Connecting with Friends: You can connect with friends by sharing your unique friend code and having your friend accept the request, and vice versa. No other personal information is required to connect with friends.
  • Sharing Ride Data: When you choose to share a ride or drive with your friends, your ride data (including the statistics you choose to share) is copied from your private iCloud database to RideMate's shared iCloud database. This data is stored securely by Apple using CloudKit technology.
  • Privacy Controls: Only your friends can view your shared rides. You have full control over what rides you share and with whom.
  • No Access to Your Data: Even when you share rides with friends, we do not have access to your ride data. All data is managed through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure.

Web Access via RideMate Website

RideMate provides a web interface at getridemate.app/platform where you can access your rides through your web browser:

  • iCloud Sign-In: To access your data on the web, you sign in with your iCloud credentials. This authentication is handled directly by Apple.
  • Direct CloudKit Access: Using CloudKit technology, your web browser connects directly to your iCloud account and accesses your data securely. This connection is established between your browser and Apple's servers.
  • We Never See Your Data: When you use the RideMate website, your data flows directly between your iCloud account and your browser. We never see, store, or have access to your data. All data access is handled by Apple's CloudKit infrastructure.
  • Secure Connection: All connections between your browser and iCloud are encrypted and secured by Apple's security measures.

Permissions

For RideMate to function properly, it will require certain permissions on your device, such as:

  • Location Services: To track your rides. This data is processed locally on your device or backed up to your iCloud account if enabled.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or through other appropriate communication channels. You're advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
